Nope, no Affirmative Action needed. Discrimination's over!

Yeah. "Post-racial society of Obama" my ass.

You know, this was one of my (many) fears about Obama's victory - that it would signal to people that racism was somehow "over" or even really diminished. As if his victory even negated the glaring instances of racism we saw during the campaign. Give me a break.

I'm a big racism skeptic, as I'm sure you know. I was quite intrigued when you referred me to the study of names on resumes.

The conclusion was that black names had to send out 1.5 resumes for every 1 that a white person had to send out. For some reason, the study limited itself to two cities. But even if we assume that this fact is true for all of America, and this is the extent to which racism still exists, is it really a problem?

I've never said that there isn't racism at all or that there isn't some thoughts that occur subconsciously that result in discrimination, but if the end result of that reality is that AA's have to send out 1.5 resumes... are we really looking at a serious problem? I say no.

Ryan,

I may have misread what you're saying here, but are you telling me that you have little to no problem with Blacks having to work twice as hard to get just as far when all qualifications are the same or better? Isn't that the an antithesis to the "free, equal" society that Libertarians seek for "all Americans"? It seems that "as long as those blacks can get a job in the end (despite them having an unfair disadvantage based off...well, being black), it's all good", thereby ignoring the white privilege revealed in the study.

You're also assuming that this one study sums up "All of Americas racism problems". There are some other pretty damning studies out there as well. I'd do some searches about drug searches, who gets searched more often (non-Whites), yet who is morelikely to have it on them when searched (whites, by about 4 times as likely to have it on them). That's just one off of the top of my head.
